In Reflection...

The end of the year makes you reflect on the good, the bad, and the well just OK. As we take some time to think about what we covered so far this year it seems logical to break it up into two different focus points with two different blogs. The one being the design features we have come to hate. Or love to hate depending on how you look at it.

There is the favorite Color Theory: More is Better. As we have learned along the way, more is often horrific. More color can cause more problems. The colors don't compliment each other. The copy is hard to read. You pick it. Then there was the Can You Add Anything Else?

This point is one of my favorites. I love stumbling upon those pages that hold so much information you have no idea what you are viewing. Which leads into the Can You Add Anything Else? I think I will leave this one alone for now. All that is left is My Eyes are Burning and the Links.

I guess we should all keep these original few as we enter 2011 and come up with even more aspects of design we love to hate.

End of 2010

Our site may still be in it's infancy, but we have been able to cover a wide variety of sites that have covered an even larger variety of topics. Remember post number one with the tacky green weirdo? Randy was it?

Or maybe you enjoyed the bridal site (filled with all of those tacky pictures) or even the site filled with random electronics that you could buy and enjoy. Remember the little Santa waving at you?! Or were you a fan of the latest eye candy site? Not exactly the type of eye candy we were all expecting to see. :) Maybe you liked the Florida site. It's easy to stumble on those types of design flaws daily.

Did you even have a favorite or was it simply impossible to choose?! I am not sure if I honestly could choose a favorite. Poor design is almost impossible to rank. Regardless of your favorite site we hope that you enjoyed spending the year reviewing the worst and well, the horrendous with us.

We can only hope that 2011 brings us more and more websites gone wrong to share with you. Have a safe and Happy New Year everyone! Looking forward to a new year with new possibilities!

Florida Is Not Looking Good From Here

I stumbled upon this gem during a recent search to find a hotel for my friend's bacherolette party. I heard Florida was supposed to be absolutely beautiful, but this website is making me thing different. Well, what do you think?!

Can I draw your attention to the overall layout? It seems that this page was poorly designed and only fits half of the page. Depending on the size of your monitor this may appear even stranger. Other main design flaws include the color choices, the odd layout of information, the text, and the extremely small and odd shaped graphic image.

The color choices don't do much for the layout. The warm color seem appropriate for a state with such warm weather, but the exact shades of the oranges and yellows do not work well with the greens and pinks.

On the plus side there is an abundance of information on this site. If you can look past the poor design and ugly layout you might be able to locate some of the information you require. I couldn't get past it, but I hope you can. If not, there are other sites out there that can help!

Eye Sore

One of my favorite pages on this entire site is this one. You ask why this is my favorite page on the site? Well, I can not answer that in one single sentence.

Why I Love This Site: Reason 1
The background. Yes, it is that simple. Did you see the background? I can only assume that it is supposed to be an optical nerve. And, yet of course the optical nerve is in red and green. It's a Christmas optical nerve.

Why I Love This Site: Reason 2
The products. Could this be any more random? Tacky pink and black ladies' glasses, an odd image of a contact lense, and a random pair of sunglasses. How much better could this page get? Poor design and tacky images. Hmmmm... this may be one of my favorite pages of all time.

Why I Love This Site: Reason 3
Yes, the third reason I love this page is T.I. A randomly placed image of a celebrity can turn a page into an interesting piece of art.

Well, I think it's time to go off and explore other horrific websites. Happy Almost New Year everyone! I hope you have beautifully designed plans. :)

Eye Candy Time

Hmmm... when I think of eye candy this is not exactly what I think of. Actually, I think of eye pleasing images that may or may not include a variety people or at least non-nauseating images. Anyone that might be calling this number likely does not see well. Or, at the very least does not understand what good design looks like.

Depending how you look at the color wheel, purple and green have a love/hate relationship. (Depending on the shade and depth.) Also, did anyone notice the annoyingly large Facebook symbol in the left corner? If you were to compare that symbol to most other sites that show their Facebook status it is a little bit unusual. So, if you land on the home page and thought that it was a horrible design, treat yourself to one of the sub-pages.

All I can suggest is if you are looking for a good website design maybe you should call a different number. Yet, if you are looking for a good deal on eye wear this group may be able to help. Check out the deal with the obnoxious red price. How does red help this design in any way what-so-ever?

Can't Say I Agree!

Friends and other followers have suggested a variety of "ugly web sites" and their opinions have really changed the way I look at sites I frequent.

For example, the post from a few weeks ago about Craigslist. I mean Craigslist looks like Craigslist! I never once thought it was odd or not user friendly. I just accepted it for what it was. A second site was brought to my attention that fits the same bill. Some people think Facebook is not user friendly. FACEBOOK! The one site that millions and millions visit daily is not user friendly to some people? I guess you can't please everyone right?

So, in the defense of those who don't like the Facebook layout I tried to understand what they didn't enjoy. Top on the list was the many links and the abundance of information. I guess, depending on how you look at it, Facebook can seem crammed with posts, adds, and random columns of information. I would have to say the more you visit the more you get used to it. That is a loaded statement though. If that is true, could you get used to any site with ugly, horrible design? Well, could you?
